SOLUTION:

·        What is aim of collecting numerical data for a statistical study?

Answer: The word statistics means an aggregate of numerical facts collected for the purpose of some information and any value calculated from sample data.

·        Write down the functions of statistics?

Answer: There is the some function of statistics:

1.      Statistical techniques being powerful tools for analyzing numerical data are used in almost every branch of learning. In the biological and physical sciences, genetics, agronomy, anthropometry, astronomy, physics, geology etc. are the main areas where statistical techniques have been developed and are increasingly used.

2.      Statistics assists in summarizing the larger sets of data in a form that is easily understandable.

3.      Statistics assists in drawing general conclusions and in making predictions of how much of a thing will happen under given conditions.

4.       Statistics assists in the efficient design of laboratory and field experiments as well as surveys.

5.      A businessman an industrialist and a research worker all employ statistical method in their work. Banks, insurance companies and governments all have their statistics departments.

 (b) A paint retailer has had numerous complaints from customers about under-filled paint cans. As a result retailer started to inspect the incoming shipments. A recent shipment contained 2,440 gallon-size cans. The retailer sampled 50 cans and weighted each on a scale capable of measuring weight up to four decimal places and properly filled cans weight 10 pounds.

4.     Describe a sample.

SOLUTION:

1.      A population is 2,440

2.      A variable of interest is under weight paint gallons

3.      The data type of variable is Quantitative variable

4.      A sample is 50

 Q: 2) (a) How collection of data is performed with the help of enumerators?

ANSWER:  Enumerators allow the data to be collecting a grouping quicker and cheaper. Enumerators listed dwellings and conducted interviews or dropped of questionnaires. They tracked response and did follow up using their lists for control.

(b) Average height of the students in a school is 5.2 inches. A sample of 12 students showed the following heights in inches, 5.0, 5.3, 5.2, 4.9, 4.11, 5.0, 5.5, 5.4, 5.1, 5.0, 5.2, 4.10

Calculate the sampling error?

Q: 3) (a) Can we find out the Median from the following data? If yes, write the reason (No need to calculate the Median).

SOLUTION:

            Yes we find out the Median from that table because in the Median there is no need to estimate the upper or lower boundary.
